Former MLB’s pitcher’s daughter gets baseball scholarship

Meet Sarah Hudek, she’s just gotten a scholarship to play college baseball at Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC), a junior college program in Louisiana.  Sarah will be the first female to play baseball at BPCC and one of the first at the collegiate level.

Her father, John Hudek was a journeyman reliever and an all-star in the big leagues, so it appears that the apple hasn’t fallen far from the tree.  Sarah is a southpaw that throws in the low eighties.

According to the BPCC head coach, Aaron Vorachek,

“This is not a gimmick and I could care less about media attention,” Vorachek said. “I’m signing her to help us win ballgames.”

Vorachek said the 5-foot-10 Hudek is a left-handed pitcher throwing 82 miles per hour.

“That’s as good, or better, than most boys around here.”

Hudek said she is excited about pursuing her dream of playing at the next level.

“Coach Vorachek is a great guy who sees me as a player who can help his team and not just as a girl. He has accepted me as a player,” Hudek told The Times. “I’m excited about the opportunity and I’ll do whatever I can to help BPCC win games.”
