Woman takes down confederate flag

Sometimes all you need is a few minutes to make history and that’s what this woman did today when she took down the confederate flag.  Bree Newsome, activist and teacher, took action and scaled the flag pole in front of the South Carolina Statehouse.

This flag has been part of the statehouse for decades,  according to the Washington post the confederate flag has been part of the statehouse since the 6o’s, “Some version of the Confederate flag has flown atop or in front of the South Carolina statehouse in Columbia since 1961.”

Although the flag was put back up, this activist’s actions are echoing throughout the world.  When asked why Bree was quoted as saying,

“We removed the flag today because we can’t wait any longer,” Bree said in a statement. “We can’t continue like this another day. It’s time for a new chapter where we are sincere about dismantling white supremacy and building toward true racial justice and equality.”
