A beautiful story of hope. Sharista Giles woke up from a coma on Wednesday. Giles, 20, was 5 months pregnant when she was in a car accident in December.
Beverly Giles, her aunt, told ABC news, “The doctors were telling us there was nothing else they could do…They already gave up hope. We never gave up. She’s fought this hard.”
Sharista’s baby boy was delivered prematurely in January weighing less than 2 pounds, but now is healthier weighing 6 pounds.
Beverly Giles described Sharista’s interaction with her father, “He showed her a picture of her baby, and she followed the picture,” she said. “When he turned around to put it back on the bulletin board, she turned her neck, her whole head trying to follow and find the picture again.” Giles said.
Sharista’s family hopes to bring the baby to her just as soon as he’s discharged from the University of Tennessee Medical Center’s unit.
